The Relaxed Chilbirth Programme - For a Pain Free Childbirth
The relaxed childbirth method is a programme that provides a drug-free way to have a pain free and enjoyable birth through the power of hypnosis. Using hypnosis in this way is not new, many mothers have used mind techniques for years to help with the birth process and with post-natal depression.
Childbirth involves a specific group of muscles and the most important thing a mother can do is to learn how to completely relax and control these muscles, this enables childbirth to be controlled, relaxed and natural. In just a few weeks expectant Mums and Dads can learn how to use specific hypnotic techniques to allow childbirth to be pleasurable experience. By learning to relax the mother can control the birthing muscles in a way which allows both parents to look forward to and enjoy sharing the childbirth experience together.
The relaxed childbirth method offers a healthy complementary method of childbirth for both Mother and baby which is steadily growing in popularity. Most Midwives are supportive of any therapy which will keep Mums calm and relaxed during childbirth as this allows them to work efficiently and effectively in an environment which is beneficial for all. The relaxed childbirth plan does not replace drug and other pain relief methods.
Mums to be
If you are an expectant Mother it is only natural that you may have fears or worries. These worries may stem from a previous pregnancy or birth, or you may be a first time Mother who needs help to deal with the fear of the unknown. With the relaxed childbirth programme hypnosis can help you to take control of both your fears and the event itself. It is designed to teach the Mother how to relax themselves before, during and after childbirth, your baby will then be born in a peaceful, calm and happy environment.
What about Dad?
Dads can often feel left out of the birthing experience, it is however important not to underestimate their importance. Throughout the birth the Fathers are the one person who is almost constantly with the mother throughout the birth. Their help and support is very important and helps to keep mum calm providing vital support. Fathers or Birthing Partners are vital to the Relaxed Childbirth Programme.
If Dad, Mum or your chosen Birthing Partner has any particular fears or worries of there own, i.e fear of needles, nerves or fear of blood, these issues can be dealt with at an additional single hypnotherapy session before the birth.
How many sessions
It takes just 4 sessions and starts at approx week 34 (week 32 for multiple births), Denise will take you through relaxation techniques and self-hypnosis training, you will receive 4 CD’s which will support you throughout the late stages of pregnancy and childbirth. These 4 sessions will run as per the table below.

| Session 1 Week 34 | Initial Consultation | Both Mum and Dad should attend this session where we meet to discuss your history of pregnancy and the expectations, requirements that you both have. I will explain how hypnosis can achieve a pain free, relaxed birth. It is then and for you both to decide if this is the right therapy for you. |
| Session 2 Week 35 | Joint Relaxation | Both Mum and Dad attend this session which is designed to boost the confidence and self-esteem of expectant parents whilst enabling them to bond in a calming and relaxing environment. This will serve to create positive expectations for childbirth and ongoing childcare. During this session you will be given a relaxation CD for you to use at home. (This CD can also be used after childbirth for family relaxation). |
| Session 3 Week 36 | Self Hypnosis | This session of for Mum only where you will learn self-hypnosis, using self-hypnosis will reduce the discomfort experienced during childbirth. You will be taught numbing techniques as well as the ‘safe place’ technique for relaxation and distraction up to and including the birth. After this session you will receive a CD containing background music as well as an information pack containing information on discomfort management, anaesthesia and safe place techniques. |
| Session 4 Week 37 | Pre-Childbirth | Again this session of for Mum only. Techniques are provided to promote a relaxed birth, there are several differing techniques taught which will allow you flexibility to cover any possible changes that may be required to your chosen birth plan. You will be:- totally alert and able to communicate during childbirth, feel confident and at ease with the childbirth process, open eyes during birth - bond quickly and easily with your new baby, feel healthy, calm and relaxed and experience a quick and effortless recovery. After this final session you will receive 2 CD’s to take home. The 1st one is a Pre-childbirth CD for home practice, and the 2nd one is a ChildbirthCD for use in the delivery suite. |
